Traders said heavy selling by stockists, triggered by a weak global trend, led to the fall in prices of gold and silver.
The precious metal had gained Rs 335 in the last two days.
Silver also jumped Rs 950 to Rs 44,750 per kg on increased offtake by jewellers and industrial units.
Silver, however, fell for the third straight session by losing Rs 200 to Rs 43,800 per kg on lack of buying support from coin makers and industrial units.
Silver also recovered by Rs 200 to Rs 37,000 per kg.
Traders said weak demand at prevailing higher levels and retailers looking for more correction mainly kept pressure on gold and silver prices.
Gold regained its sheen on Wednesday by soaring Rs 315 to Rs 27,565 per 10 grams at the bullion market.

Traders said sluggish demand due to ongoing 'Sharads', an inauspicious fortnight in Hindu mythology to make fresh purchases, mainly kept the precious metals lower.
Traders said the sentiment remained bearish as gold slumped to a five-week low in overseas markets on speculation that the US Federal Reserve will taper asset purchases.
Silver also plunged by Rs 1,300 to Rs 46,000 per kg on poor offtake by jewellery fabricators and industrial units.
Traders said sustained offerings by stockists on the back of weak global trend, as investors weighed the outlook for the Fed's monetary policy after improving economic growth, mainly reduced demand for gold as an alternate investment.

In Mumbai, gold of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity rebounded by Rs 170 and Rs 190 to Rs 30,650 and Rs 30,520 per ten grams, respectively. Silver jumped by Rs 1,050 to Rs 46,800 per kg.
Traders said besides increased offtake by jewellers, both precious metals improved on some buying by investors who shifted their money from easing equities to the bullion.
While gold fell by Rs 400 to Rs 28,000 per 10 grams, silver plunged by Rs 1,500 to Rs 43,100 per kg on poor offtake.
Gold prices on Thursday fell by Rs 180 to trade at Rs 26,870 per 10 grams at the bullion market.

Gold in Singapore, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, fell by 0.28 per cent to Rs 1361.80 and silver by 1.90 per cent to 22.75 dollar an ounce.
Gold remained weak for the second straight day and prices fell by another Rs 190 to Rs 26,810 per ten grams.
Extending losses for the second straight session, both gold and silver today declined in the national capital due to subdued demand from stockists at prevailing higher levels amid a weak Asian trend.
